Clinical Skills
Year 1 - Medical School - Clinical Skills Laboratory
Year 2 - Medical School - Clinical Skills Laboratory
Year 3 - Hospital Based

Years 4-5

Integrated program in teaching hospitals via a range of clinical attachments. All students are required to complete a research proposal project in Year 4, and there are further opportunities for those with a particular interest in research. All students are required to undertake an external elective placement between year 5 and year 6.
Attachments include:

  • Medical Surgical Home Units
  • Psychological Health
  • Acute and Chronic Care I (Orthopaedics & Trauma, Rheumatology, Rehabilitation)
  • Medical and Scientific Attachments
  • Anaesthetics / ICU / Pain Attachment
  • Acute and Chronic Care II (Geriatrics, GP)
  • Human Reproductive Health
  • Paediatrics and Child Health

Year 6

Program of six week Clinical Attachments

Semester 1 - Hospital based attachments in:
  • Emergency Department Internship
  • Medicine Internship
  • Surgery Internship
Semester 2 - Specialist, Community and Ambulatory Placements (SCAP’s):
  • Medicine or Surgery SCAP
  • Primary Care SCAP
  • Psychiatry SCAP

There are opportunities for students to complete rural attachments during this community based semester.

Rural School

A Rural Clinical School has been established in Whyalla and offers opportunities for students to undertake clinical placements and learning in a rural setting. The Clinical School offers teaching opportunities in a variety of settings throughout the Mid North and Spencer Gulf region of South Australia.
